This is one of those pieces of gear you would think are not “essential” but “become essential”. When you are in the wood or in Nature in general, you just need a pot and some means to make fire in order to purify water. But if you would spend 50 USD for this water filter… you would save a lot of hours of making fire, waiting and being thirsty.
